The eBook advantages for the Author
- Traditional publishers pay usually in the order of 10% on the sales price as royalty to the author. This is only attractive for bestsellers, but for books sold in a volume of a few hundred this barely generates income for the author. To illustrate this, imagine a traditionally published book with a list price of €18. The distributor (book shop or other publisher) gets say a 40-50% trade discount between them (say for the sake of simplicity €8) and the author gets a 10% royalty on the net price (or €1). With EUReBOOKs the margin is far higher – see Pricing.
Many books are rejected by a publisher. It’s not uncommon for a traditional book to get rejected 20 or 30 times by different publishers and agents before finally being accepted – if being accepted at all.
- The author retains complete rights to the title and agreements will be non-exclusive (so you can sell through other publishers).
- An eBook can get to the market much faster. A traditional book can take up to two years for the publisher to get your book to the market, and much of that is out of your control.
- eBooks can be changed or updated easily, without the need for new print runs and destroying outdated editions. With EUReBOOKs, access rights to existing books can also be easiliy revoked, and updated editions can be made available to existing customers if you want to do so. In this way, you can be sure that your customers always get the last version and don’t have to be stuck with a version with outdated or incorrect information.
- Traditional books can go out of print, and the publisher may judge that a new print run is economically not feasible. With eBooks you go never out of print.
